Cliff Cave holds the longest known free-hanging stalactite in Europe, a pale ribbon suspended in darkness above the western edge of The Burren. English cavers crawled into its narrow throat in 1952, and years of argument followed before people could walk past the stone instead of squeezing through it. The cave still keeps most of itself hidden, offering one brilliant column while withholding the rest.
