What is recorded here

Carran is a small village in County Clare, Ireland, notable mainly for being the birthplace of Michael Cusack, the inspirer and co-founder of the Gaelic Athletic Association. The land is mainly rocky pasture with much limestone, bounded on the northwest by County Galway and on the south by Kilnaboy. An 1837 account said the church was in ruins, and there were the remains of two other old churches at Crunane and Glanculmkil. Within eight kilometres of the village are several stone forts, Poulnabrone dolmen, a turlough and limestone scenery.
Westropp (1905, 349) noted a defaced and partly rebuilt cairn on the ‘corner of the knoll’ on which two cashels (CL004-065002- and CL004-065003-) are located. ITM 510520, 701994 was inspected as a possible location in 1998 but was found to be natural. There may be a cairn elsewhere in the vicinity. A Neolithic cairn, likely dating to the early to middle Bronze Age due to its association with cashels; its significance lies in its potential link to early settlement and ritual activity in the area.
