Indicated

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Indicated was a fairy fort in County Cork, mapped as a circular enclosure in 1842 before ploughing erased it. The land swallowed the ring, denying it the chance to haunt or hide treasure. Forgetting is a mercy, sparing humans the trouble of believing what the soil already knows.
In tillage, on SW-facing slope. Hachured on 1842 OS 6-inch map as circular enclosure (diam. c. 25m); as curve in N-S field fence on later eds of OS 6-inch map. Levelled; no visible surface trace. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
