What is recorded here

In flat wet reclaimed grassland with good views in all directions, nearby stream 50m to N. Barely visible cropmark of circular enclosure (approx. diam 35m N-S; 40m E-W) of levelled circular enclosure. Circular enclosure is visible on aerial photographs (GSI S. 591/2; 586/5). Ground is wet where enclosure was situated while surrounding land is dry. Not indicated on the first edition OS 6-inch map and indicated as a tree-ring on latest edition OS 6-inch map. Probably a tree-ring constructed between 1840 and 1903. This was classified in the SMR (1992) and the RMP (1997) as an 'Enclosure possible'. Following field inspection this was classified as a tree-ring of post-1700 date and as such is not included in the current remit of the ASI. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011
