Maccaratty and the hidden field marks belong to one place. A field system in Ballymacaratty Beg shows that people farmed the land before modern boundaries covered it. The ancient fields may have fed families, raised children and sustained local life long before they disappeared from memory.

The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as Field system (rath DOW040:016). Recorded period: E.CHRIST.; UNCERTAIN. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
