Portal tomb in Ballyknock (tirawley By., Doonfeeny Par.)

Portal tomb

What is recorded here

Death in that place was not forgotten. It was built into the earth with stones large enough to carry the weight of a life. The dead did not leave empty-handed. They took the shape of the field, the sky and the memory of every person who loved them. The living followed them into that shape. They believed the dead were still present because the world continued to give itself back to them in visible form. To bury someone there was to admit that love does not end when the body stops moving.
