RATH in Ballenan

RATH

What is recorded here

Rath in Ballenan is an early Christian rath in County Armagh, Ireland, where a simple earthen circle may have enclosed a small dwelling, a prayer garden or a childhood yard. It is no longer a visible monument, but the land still carries the shape of that forgotten room. To walk past it is to step beside a house that stopped being a house only after people stopped remembering it.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as RATH. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. Recorded protection: Scheduled. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
