Graveslab in Baile Chláir marks four seventeenth-century slabs at Claregalway friary whose inscriptions have worn until only isolated letters remain. They stand as vanished names, perhaps monks, perhaps neighbours, reduced to ghost marks on stone. The friary gave them shape, but time has taken back most of their identity.

Bradley and Dunne (1992, 62) noted ‘four slabs of seventeenth century date with inscriptions almost completely worn away and on which only isolated letters can now be determined’ at Claregalway friary (GA070-035001-).
