Ogham stone (present location) in Baile An Fheirtéaraigh

Ogham stone (present location)

What is recorded here

Six ogham stones stand together, one of them CORBAGNI, carved on three angles and discovered in 1846. The ringfort at Baile An Fheirtéaraigh held them like a chamber of names, waiting for someone to read them back into the world.
This is the present location of an ogham stone discovered in 1846 built into a Man-made underground passage (CO085-067002-), in the SW quadrant of a ringfort (CO085-067001-), with five other ogham stones (CO085-067003-, CO085-067005-; CO085-067006-; CO085-067007-; CO085-067008-). This stone (CO085-067004-) is part of the National Museum of Ireland collection and is currently on display in the museum in Ballyferriter. The inscription is on three angles of the stone (0.9m; 0.4m x 0.2m), given by Macalister (1945, 94-6, no. 98) as CORBAGNI K[OI] M[A]Q[I] MOCCOI COROTANI, and by McManus (1991, 66) as CORBAGNI K.. ...COI cOROtANI. (Power et al. 1997, no. 7949) This stone has been studied as part of the ‘Ogham in 3D’ project undertaken by the School of Celtic Studies, Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies.
