Cuckoo

Shipwreck

Why this matters

Cuckoo was a 19th-century British coaster, wrecked in 1863 near the coast of Cumbria after running aground in heavy fog. The vessel was carrying a general cargo of coal and agricultural produce; all six crew members were rescued with no loss of life. Its wreck remains a notable example of small-scale coastal trade in the mid-Victorian era.
