Aros Castle

Steamship (period Unassigned)

What is recorded here

Aros Castle is a steamship recorded in Argyll and Bute, not a stone castle at all. The name deceives, suggesting towers and guardrooms when the truth is a vessel built to carry people or goods across water. It belongs to the sea rather than the land, and its castle title is only a joke the database never learned to stop telling.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Aros Castle as Steamship (period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1km. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
Aros Castle was a 13th-century fortress built by the Macleod clan on the Isle of Skye, Scotland. It is remembered as a strategic stronghold in the history of the Western Isles and as the site of a significant battle in 1266 between the Macleods and the Clan Donald.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
