Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Tiree, Kirkapoll as Cross Incised Rock (early Medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Linked to Saint Donnán of Eigg, Tiree's holy sites are associated with early Christian pilgrimage and monastic traditions. Local folklore speaks of healing wells and sacred crosses, with some traditions suggesting the saint's relics were venerated on the island.
