Ardmaddy Castle is a privately occupied mansion near the west coast of Argyll, built around a strong rectangular tower with two vaulted basements that dates from the late 15th century. The Campbells held the land from 1313, rebuilt the place substantially after burning it in 1620, and extended it again in the 18th century with two projecting wings. From the public road the oldest tower looks like an uninteresting rear wall of a large house, hiding the medieval heart beneath later grandeur.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Ardmaddy Castle as Country House (18th Century), Tower House (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Ardmaddy Castle was built by the MacDowalls, a prominent Scottish clan, in the 15th century, with later 18th-century modifications. It is remembered as a historic stronghold associated with Clan MacDowall and as an example of medieval and later Scottish domestic architecture.
