What is recorded here

Castles scatter across Argyll and Bute like broken teeth along a coastal jaw, from Airds overlooking Kilbrannan Sound to Dunstaffnage at Loch Etive. Some are ruined towers, such as Carrick and Carnasserie; others remain inhabited or adapted, like Barcaldine and Duart. The name does not point to one building but to a regional habit of stone, sea and memory.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Castles as Estate (period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
