Dunaverty Castle is a medieval castle and 17th-century battle site in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. Its stones may have marked a boundary, a home, a warning or a trap. A person may have stood there in rain, watched the water, kept a door closed or lost a life for a line drawn by another man. The castle still belongs to that human conflict, stripped of display and pride.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Dunaverty Castle as Battle Site (17th Century), Castle (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
A battle at Dunaverty Castle in Kintyre, Argyll, took place in 1646 during the Wars of the Three Kingdoms. Royalist forces under Sir James Campbell of Lochnell defeated a Covenanter army, securing the castle for the Royalist cause in the region.
