Airds Castle stands as a ruined medieval fortress on a rocky headland above Carradale, watching Kilbrannan Sound and the Isle of Arran. It served the Lord of the Isles until the late 1400s, when King James IV granted it to Sir Adam Reid of Stairquhite and Barskimming. The castle later passed through the MacDonalds of Dunnyveg before returning to the Reid family by 1605, leaving behind stones that still mark the border between royal and island power.
