What is recorded here

In the S sector of an ecclesiastical enclosure (TS074-010----) known as St. Berrihert's Kyle and incorporated in an oval stone enclosure, stepped internally, built by the OPW in 1946 (Ó hÉailidhe 1967, 102). This slab is located in the E sector, on internal ledge. It is described by Ó hÉailidhe (1967, 118) as slab 63, composed of grey sandstone (dims 0.46m x 0.18m; T 0.05). 'Latin cross, the upper part in low relief (3mm), graded outwards, and the lower part in outline with bottom of shaft open. The back is not visible' (ibid.). Probably dates to the early medieval period, associated with the Christian monastic settlement of St. Berrihert's Kyle. The cross-slab may have served as a memorial or liturgical marker, reflecting the spiritual and communal life of the site.
