Cross-slab in Ardane

In the S sector of an ecclesiastical enclosure (TS074-010----) known as St. Berrihert's Kyle and incorporated into the upper surface of an oval stone enclosure, stepped internally, built by the OPW in 1946 (Ó hÉailidhe 1967, 102). It is referred to by Ó hÉailidhe (1967, 116) as slab 41, and was 'lying loose in enclosure', however, it was subsequently inserted into the top of the wall, possibly upside down, with only 0.15m projecting from the surface. It is described by Ó hÉailidhe (ibid.) as being composed of grey sandstone (dims 0.23m x 0.15m; T 0.08m) and is decorated with a 'Latin cross in low relief (1.3m), with all members splayed slightly.
