What is recorded here

In the S sector of an ecclesiastical enclosure (TS074-010----) known as St. Berrihert's Kyle and incorporated in an oval stone enclosure, stepped internally, built by the OPW in 1946 (Ó hÉailidhe 1967, 102). This slab is located in the E sector, at ground level. It is described by Ó hÉailidhe (1967, 111) as slab 16, composed of grey sandstone (dims 0.7m x 0.33m; T 0.1m). 'An irregular Latin cross in low relief (6mm) with double-rounded hollow in the angles. The face of the slab is covered with little holes which appear to be natural. The back is blank' (ibid.). Probably dates to the early medieval period, associated with the Christian use of the site linked to St. Berrihert. The cross-slab may have served as a memorial or liturgical marker within the monastic enclosure.
