Olderfleet Castle is a four-storey ruin on Curran Point in County Antrim, built around the sixteenth century on a site possibly occupied since 1250. Its thick walls and gun loops reveal a fortified warehouse rather than a home, watching Larne Lough for ships and invaders. The name itself remembers Norse sailors who called the water Ulfrecksfiord. Standing beside the broken stones, you can still feel the point’s purpose: a narrow neck of land where the sea could be read before it could be trusted.
