Belfast birthplace of David Trimble, the first Northern Ireland First Minister and Nobel Peace Prize winner who led the Ulster Unionist Party through the stormy years after the Good Friday Agreement. The city gave him its law schools, its divided streets and its stubborn hope that politics could still work when guns had done so much damage. Trimble carried that local contradiction into national offices, proving that a man born inside the conflict could help build the peace.
