Red Castle, Lunan — Report the wrong picture

William the Lion founded Red Castle as a hunting seat in the 12th century, building its walls from local red freestone ashlar. The 15th century keep still stands with corner bartizans beside a six-metre-high enceinte fragment, overlooking a foreshore scattered with roof slates and masonry blocks. The sea continues taking the bank below, carrying centuries of midden debris into the tide while the red stones watch the water rise.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Red Castle, Lunan as Castle (medieval), Midden (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Red Castle, Lunan was built in the 13th century by the Comyn family, a powerful noble dynasty in medieval Scotland. It is remembered for its strategic location near the North Sea and its association with the broader network of Comyn strongholds, which played a key role in the political and military history of Scotland.
