Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Monifieth as Cross Slab (pictish), Pictish Symbol Stone (pictish). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Likely dating to the Pictish period (circa 4th–9th century AD), the Monifieth Cross Slab is carved with symbols and Christian iconography, suggesting a religious or commemorative function. Such stones often marked territorial boundaries, memorials, or early Christian sites.
