Castle Hill in Angus is a prehistoric cairn, an ancient heap of stones built before written history to mark life, death or ownership on open land. It still stands because people kept adding stones, remembering that the ground could hold more than soil. Walk past it and you are joining a long chain of hands that believed the hill was worth shaping.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Castle Hill as Cairn (prehistoric). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
