Braikie Castle stands as a tall, L-shaped fortress built in 1581 for Thomas Fraser, a son of the 5th Lord Lovat. Its walls are pierced by so many gunloops that almost every window sill hides a weapon, suggesting the laird expected constant danger from his neighbours. The main stair stops at the first floor, forcing guests to use a separate turret while the owner climbed a hidden internal flight to his private chamber. This clever separation kept the host safe and proud, even as the building now crumbles into neglect.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Braikie Castle as Castle (16th Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
