Why this matters

A Neolithic passage tomb with a circular platform and fosse; dates to the 4th–3rd millennium BCE. Its construction reflects early communal burial practices and earthwork engineering in the region.

What is recorded here

In pasture, on top of a low ridge. A circular platform (diam. 5.9m; H 0.4m) surrounded by a flat-bottomed fosse (Wth 3.3m; D c. 0.15m) with an external earthen bank (Wth 3.5m; H 0.7m). The entrance (Wth 2m) is at NE with a causeway across the fosse. There is a field boundary on top of the bank S-N. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
