Tolquhon Castle is a ruined 15th-century fortress in Aberdeenshire where Preston Tower still stands with walls three metres thick. William Forbes enlarged the site in 1584, adding a courtyard, gatehouse and domestic ranges, while James VI visited in 1589. People lived there until the 19th century, when neglect took it back. The dovecot, bee boles and pit-prison suggest a household that was busy, proud and capable of cruelty.

Tolquhon Castle is a medieval tower house located in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, built in the 16th century by the Gordon family, a powerful and influential Scottish clan. It is remembered for its historical association with the Gordons and as an example of early defensive architecture in the north-east of Scotland.
