Barras stands in Aberdeenshire as a ruined tower house and sundial from the eighteenth century, though only northeast and southeast walls survive beside a gateway. The lost rooms may have measured daylight on stone or marked the reach of a local family, but that life has withdrawn from the visible facts. What remains is a boundary fragment: a house reduced to the distance between two walls and the air they still exclude.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Barras as Sundial (18th Century), Tower House (18th Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
