Abergeldie Castle is a mid-16th century tower house built of pink harled granite rubble for the Gordon family, who held it from 1482. It has four storeys, a vaulted basement with gun-loops, and a tall stair tower whose top once opened onto an iron-railed viewing platform. Beneath the stair lies a small pit dungeon where local legend claims Katy Rankin, tried as a witch, was chained before hanging on the nearby hill. The Royal Family leased the castle from 1848 to 1970, filling it with life and later removing most of the broad additions to expose the lean medieval tower again.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Abergeldie Castle as Standing Stone (prehistoric). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
