Drum Castle Policies and Drum Hill Wood served as a gravel pit through the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, pulling stone from the earth beneath Aberdeenshire. Men may have swung hammers or driven carts along hidden tracks, shaping the land for roads and buildings elsewhere. The wood still holds the shape of that labour, even when no marker remains to name it.
