Castle Newe stood in Strathdon without defensive walls, wearing a 1604 datestone above the door of the house built in 1831. Men added rooms through the 18th and 19th centuries until demolition took the building around 1950, leaving only a barrel-vaulted cellar and corridor rotting in the ground. The castle never needed to fight; it needed to keep being lived in, and when that stopped, even its stones forgot the shape of the rooms.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Castle Newe as Findspot (19th Century), Cup (stone)(period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1km. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
