Marian and her husband walked the north policies at dusk, passing a low cairn of broken stone beside the walled garden. She touched one warm angle while he photographed the castle shadows behind them. Neither knows whether the garden kept a living person, a dead person or only a promise, but both still call that place the reason they stopped leaving Drum Castle behind.
