HMS *Hawke* was a British cruiser launched in 1896 and lost on 15 October 1914, when it struck a mine off the coast of Scotland, near the Orkney Islands. The explosion caused immediate flooding, leading to the ship's sinking within 15 minutes; all 796 crew members perished, making it one of the worst British naval disasters of the First World War. The wreck remains a significant historical and archaeological site, notable for its heavy loss of life and early wartime context.
