What is recorded here
Auchintoul stands as a plain rectangular towerhouse in Aberdeenshire where the west wing may date to the 16th century while the east wing emerged in 1711. The estate sustained a walled garden, mill, forge and octagonal lodge until sale in 1798, then endured dereliction and fire before 1990s restoration. Its stark geometry still suggests the barony granted in 1646, when human hands shaped stone for rooms, storage and pride rather than display.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Auchintoul as Castle (medieval), Tower (17th Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
Auchintoul Castle, located in Scotland, was originally a medieval structure later replaced by a 17th-century tower house. It is remembered for its historical continuity and as an example of evolving Scottish castle architecture.
The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
