Castle Fraser is a five-storey Z-plan castle in Aberdeenshire, built from 1575 to 1636 on an older tower, and it remains one of the grandest homes of the Castles of Mar. Michael Fraser began the work, John Bell and Thomas Leiper shaped its stone, and later Frasers changed its rooms, gardens and stair until Theodora sold it in 1921. The Pearson family restored it, then gave it to the National Trust for Scotland in 1976, where its vaulted hall, Regency dining room and walled garden still hold the life of several generations.
