Castle Fraser is a five-storey Z-plan castle completed in 1636 for Michael Fraser, built around an older tower and shaped by master masons John Bell and Thomas Leiper. Its rooms still hold Fraser portraits, furniture and collections, while the grounds keep a walled kitchen garden and woodland walked since the 19th century. The house changed hands through Pearson and Smiley families before the National Trust for Scotland took it in 1976, preserving both its grandeur and its domestic memory.
