Castle Hill in Aberdeenshire held a stone castle first repaired in 1264, with a chapel inside walls that also housed royal coin-work, courts and prisons. English keepers guarded it through the Wars of Independence until Bruce’s troops besieged it in 1308, and wages claimed for July and August suggest the garrison fell around mid-August. The castle vanished so quickly that Aberdeen still orbits its absence, turning a missing building into a legend.
