What is recorded here

Castle Hill in Aberdeenshire held a royal castle first named in 1264, when Richard the Mason repaired it beside a chapel. It changed hands during the Wars of Independence, endured a siege in 1308, and disappeared from memory so completely that myths still circle the hill. The stones may be gone, but the castle’s shape remains visible in the town’s birth, coinage and resistance.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Castle Hill as Cairn (period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
