Simpson's Fort in Taughlumny, County Down, is a rath, an ancient earthen stronghold dating from the early Christian period. The mound still rises above the landscape, marking a place where people lived, defended themselves and shaped the local land long before modern roads passed nearby. Its survival suggests the community valued the site enough to build, reuse and remember it across generations.
