RATH (remains of) in Aughnavallog

RATH (remains of)

What is recorded here

A forgotten rath still lies hidden beneath Aughnavallog, its earthworks faded but its purpose unchanged. People built a defensible place there, perhaps for a family, perhaps for a seasonal gathering, then left it to rot and reappear in legend. The field may have swallowed the wall, the gate and the fire pit, yet the shape of human ambition remains buried under grass.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as RATH (remains of). Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
