What is recorded here

Counterscarp rath in Annagh and Moneysterlin, County Derry. A ring of earth and shadow, old enough to predate Christian time, standing where the land still remembers being shaped. Perhaps a fortress, perhaps a boundary marker for a forgotten chief. The soil holds its shape because people once believed the circle could keep out more than rain.

The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as RATH, possibly Counterscarp rath. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
