What is recorded here
Mortars and muscles built these rath walls before written history, shaping a defensible neighbourhood where Ballypalady still stands. They were not decorative; they excluded, protected and marked the boundary between inside and outside. The group identity matters more than any single ridge because the raths worked together as one living landscape. Modern law still treats that shape as worthy of protection, which means human judgement has repeatedly recognised the strength of the design.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as RATH (PART OF RATH GROUP ANT051:015 & ANT051:016). Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. Recorded protection: Scheduled. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
