RATH overlying NEOLITHIC OCCUPATION SITE in Shanes Castle

RATH overlying NEOLITHIC OCCUPATION SITE

What is recorded here

Mortons farmland now covers a rath built above a Neolithic occupation site. That is a house laid upon a village, a room sealed inside a whole life. The girls ran past it every day, certain the ground under Dergoole belonged to the living and nothing older. They were wrong about nothing older, but right about the living still being there.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as RATH overlying NEOLITHIC OCCUPATION SITE. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.; NEOLITHIC; PREHISTORIC. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
