Under Carnmoon, a hidden passage cuts through solid rock, maybe built by human hands or maybe shaped by water and time. The official record calls it a rath and admits uncertainty about when it appeared. That uncertainty belongs in the story because the hole still exists and the purpose has slipped away. A place can be real while remaining unfinished in the minds of the people who measure it.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as RATH & Man-made underground passage. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.; UNCERTAIN. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
