RATH in Tonaghmore

RATH

What is recorded here

RATH is a recorded earthwork in Tonaghmore, County Down, preserving the shape of an early Christian settlement long after its people vanished. The land may have held prayer, birth, marriage and burial before memory retired it into silence. A person standing inside the circle today would still be touching the same boundary drawn by hands that no longer exist.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as RATH. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
