RATH in Crew Beg, County Armagh, is an archaeological site recorded for the early Christian period. A rath is a fortified enclosure, often circular or oval, built with earth or stone to protect people, livestock and treasure. It may have served as a local dwelling, a seasonal gathering place or a small centre of power. The land still carries the shape of that choice, even when the buildings have vanished.
