Blackgum and birch still crowd the ridge where the Rath stands, but the land remembers a tighter shape. A Rath is a defended ring, often circular, built to keep people alive when distance and danger closed together. In Fermanagh that purpose would have been plain: watch the water, hide the herd, and hold the line when others came. The name survives without ornament because the function was easy to understand.

The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as RATH. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
