What is recorded here

RATH in Ballygonny Beg, County Derry, is an abandoned fort or castle, not a vague dot on a modern map. That much is clear. The rest is life: whether it guarded a road, stored grain, hid people from famine or simply marked a family's pride. A rath is a boundary drawn in earth, and boundaries are made by people who believed they could resist forgetting.
