Aughlish holds a rath, which means a fort or enclosed place, yet no visible boundary remains to draw the line. The name itself is the evidence: someone built, defended, lived or abandoned the ground before the name entered any record. The absence of walls does not remove the purpose. It removes the pretence that the place needs explanation.
