Belba's Forth stands in Ballydermot as a rath, marking the boundary between human memory and the life of the field. The name suggests a woman, a bridge or a crossing, yet no human story has survived to explain which. The earth may have swallowed her forgoten life, or the forch may have belonged to a forch in a language older than Irish. What remains is a shape in the land, waiting for a memory strong enough to return it.
